The New Addition To The Master Distiller's Collection - The Wave

Introducing the latest addition to the Bladnoch portfolio - The Wave I, which is the second chapter in the Master Distiller's Collection. This five-part limited-edition series demonstrates the marrying process of whisky casks, with each annual release highlighting one of the five whisky-making pillars crafted by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage. The inaugural release, Wave I: Time & Maturation, epitomises Bladnoch’s method of selecting casks at their peak maturation to ensure optimal flavours.

The Wave series follows the conclusion of The Waterfall Series, which ended with the Bladnoch Waterfall 05 2024 release. Both series are part of the Master Distiller's Collection. Dr. Nick Savage selected five 1,500-litre Amontillado Sherry tuns for The Wave, each filled with whiskies from various cask types stored in the distillery’s historic bluestone warehouses. Each year, the cask types will be revealed, with the remaining whisky decanted into the next year’s tun, creating a continuous wave effect culminating in the final release, which will feature components from the entire series.

Under Dr. Savage's guidance, the first Amontillado sherry tun for Wave I was filled with a mix of ex-bourbon casks and the remaining whisky from Waterfall 05 2024, connecting both series. Each release in The Wave series will be accompanied by a music track that represents the whisky's journey, starting with a piano composition for Wave I: Time & Maturation, reflecting the development of the whiskies over time. Dr. Savage emphasised Bladnoch’s taste-first approach, selecting casks based on peak flavour rather than age.

Wave I: Time & Maturation, bottled at 53.8% ABV, non-chill filtered, and natural in colour, features floral pine needles and fresh-cut oak on the nose, with sweet oak and toasted coconut on the palate, finishing with a sweet, warm, and refreshing note. Limited to 1,817 bottles in honour of the distillery's founding year, it is available exclusively in the UK and Australia.
